The best destinations in the world for mountaineering

Are you ready to reach new heights on your next trip? We have gathered suggestions from travelers from all over the world for the best mountaineering destinations on the planet. *

High Tatras, Presov Region, Slovakia

The High Tatras are a mountain range that stretches along the northern border of Slovakia and the southern border of Poland. Thanks to the enchanting forests, lake landscapes and alpine accommodation on both sides of the Tatra Mountains, travelers from all over the world have suggested Slovakia’s Presov Region as their favorite place for mountaineering.

One of the most beautiful parts of the Presov Region is the Tatra National Park, a protected forest area at the top of the mountains that is considered the tallest park in Europe. Hiking in the forest with the sound of birds accompanying you, you will feel like you are in a fairytale world.

Sallanches in Rh Ρne-Alpes, France

The iconic White Mountain is visible from all over Sallanches and it is almost impossible to find a room without a mountain view. This community, in the Haute-Savoie region, is usually a temporary stop for travelers and not their main destination. But lately this seems to be changing and climbers and climbers have begun to appreciate the beauty of Sallanches (but also its convenient location).

This shift in interest is due in part to Sallanches’ location in the Arve Valley, which is rapidly evolving into a thriving technology hub. City visitors have easy access to some of the area’s most scenic and challenging climbing trails as well as Mount Aiguille du Midi.

Nallathanniya in Nuwara Eliya District, Sri Lanka

Mount Sri Panda has been a sacred place of worship for over 1,700 years. Many Christians believed that this was the first place Adam stepped on when he came to earth, while Buddhists believe the same about Buddha. The village of Nallathanniya despite its long history and the fact that it is a mountain pass, is quite remote and isolated from the rest of Sri Lanka.

The mountain landscape surrounded by lush tea plantations is beautiful. It is important to choose the right accommodation. Glass Rooms Accommodations offers bicycle and car rental as well as free parking, which you will find very useful. The property also has a restaurant (there is no option to get something outside) and a playground for the little climbers to have fun.

Vent in Tyrol, Austria

Vent may be a small village, but it is a historic center of mountaineering and related activities. One of the founders of the German Alpine Association (Deutscher Alpenverein) lived in Vent and many of the first mountaineering trips to Tyrol started from this alpine village. Routes to the Similaun, Weißkugel and Wildspitze Mountains (the highest mountain in the Ötztal Alps) start at the Vent.

The green slopes of the Vent give way to the rugged alpine soil and in summer the tops of the surrounding mountains help maintain high temperatures. The atmosphere is perfect for exploring the ztztal Nature Park and many local accommodations offer free guided hikes, including the Appartement Wildspitz.
